In my lunchbox

With all the talk of Twinkies this week, I now have a ridiculous craving for one… and I don’t think I’ve actually had a Twinkie in at least fifteen years. I’m not sure if it’s the snack that we’ll all miss or just the fact that another remnant from our childhood may be disappearing for good. (Although I doubt it… Twinkies = money and companies know it!)

When I was a kid, I had a bright red lunchbox with Mickey and Minnie on it. Actually, most of childhood clothes, bags and toys had something to do with Mickey and Minnie but I suppose the lunchbox is the most memorable because that’s where the food was! My dad always packed my lunch and (apologies to my childhood friends’ moms) he by far made the best ones. One of my classmates even asked if my dad would make an extra sandwich for her and she would pay for it. Looking back, I should have taken her up on it… may have been a good business endeavour for an eight-year-old.

These days, my dad has long retired from making my lunches. I should really take a page from his lunch-recipe-book, dig out my Mickey and Minnie lunchbox, and fill it with a delicious sandwich, fruit and a Zebra Cake. It would be a huge improvement from some of the lunches I come up with. Even a rare Twinkie would beat my lunch most days. Tradesies anyone?

I hear you! I have been craving one too since Twinkies are mentioned everywhere. And I too had a Minnie and Mickey lunch box. I think it was red too. We were obviously very stylin’ back in those days too!

Apparently regardless of what happens with this whole Twinkie thing in the States, it won’t affect Canadian twinkies. I got schooled on this from the radio the other day. American Twinkies are made by Hostess, Canadian Twinkies are made by Vachon!
